In May 1916 the Austrian Spring Offensive, better known as Strafexpedition,hit the Plateau of the"Seven Commons". Between 5 and 8 June 1916, the 1st Battle of the Meletteswas fought. Four Alpine Battalions "Argentera", "Morbegno", "Val Maira" and "Monviso", part of the "Alpini Foza Group" and the six Battalions of the 151st and 152nd Infantry Regiment of the " SassariBrigade ", without of no artillery support,they arrested on the last mountain bulwark of Mount Fior and Mount Castelgomberto the fierce departments of the 6th Imperial Division,among them the 27thKonig der BelgierRegiment and the 2nd Regiment of Bosnia.

The second Battle of the Melettes fought from 14 to 17 and from 22 to 23 November 1917. The decisive Austro-Hungarian attack, launched on 3-5 December 1917, forced the Italian regiments to retreat further south on the line of the" Three Mountains".

Environmental

Significant is the karst type and the abundant variety of even rare floristic species.
